You don't need to be technical. If you can write a text message, you can write a prompt. A prompt is simply instructions: who the AI should act as, what you want, the facts, and any rules.
Step by step
- Open a free assistant
Go to chatgpt.com, claude.ai or gemini.google.com and sign up with your email. The free plans are enough to start.
- Use the 4-part recipe
Role ("You are a friendly real estate agent"), task ("write a text to a new lead"), facts (name, home they viewed), and rules ("under 300 characters, one question").
- Ask for options
Add "Give me 3 versions." Pick the one that sounds most like you.
- Refine in plain English
Reply with "shorter", "warmer" or "less salesy". It remembers the conversation.
- Save what works
Keep good prompts in a note, or copy ours from the Prompt Library.
New lead first text (under 5 minutes)
Write 3 options for a first text to a new lead. Context: - Name: [NAME] - Source: [ZILLOW / WEBSITE / OPEN HOUSE] - What they looked at: [PROPERTY OR SEARCH] Rules: under 300 characters, sound like a real person, ask ONE easy question, no exclamation-mark overload, no pressure. Include my name: [YOUR NAME].
Good to know
- Replace anything in [BRACKETS] with your own details.
- If the answer is wrong, say what's wrong. It usually fixes it.
